Escalation in Covid-19 cases

Coronavirus (COVID-19): latest Government Information

Dear Parent/Carer Important information

I am writing to inform you of an escalation in Covid-19 cases reported here in school over the last few days. Following consultation with Public Health England and Warrington local authority and as you are aware, the decision has been made to close the school with immediate effect.

This decision was not taken lightly. The reason for the decision was due to the nature of our provision, the safe running of the school and to reduce the risk of further transmission within the school community. The decision will be kept under review but our current aim is to phase a return to school Week commencing 5th October 2020 or as earlier if this is deemed possible by Public health England. I share your frustrations at such a decision; Our learners have come back happy to engage, building new relationships and ready to continue their New Horizons journey. Our attendance has been excellent demonstrating the enthusiasm of the children to return. However, The safety of all our learners, staff and wider community is paramount and so I trust you will understand the reasoning behind this multi-agency decision. Public Health England have substantiated the fact that the school have taken all necessary control measures and acted appropriately, and that the outbreak reflects rising numbers of cases across the town and region that has caused similar problems in other specialist schools. A further review meeting will take place with Public Health and the Local Authority as soon as possible and we will be in touch to inform you of the outcomes. Please ensure that your child remains at home, safe and well; should they develop any symptoms of Covid-19 then please arrange for testing to take place. Any correspondence or queries please direct to the school email address and we will get back to you as soon as possible.

Finally, if you and your family require further support, we will be providing this through our specialist pastoral team led by Lisa Dykes. Her team will be in touch on Monday 28th September to update you on our virtual education offer and to advise, support you and your family on associated matters. Thank you for your co-operation in this matter.

Yours sincerely Karen Thomson
Executive Principal,

Welcome to TBAP New Horizons AP Academy

We are an Alternative Provision Academy for children with social, emotional and mental health needs, who have been identified as being at risk of exclusion, harm or have already been excluded from mainstream education. Children are referred to us by local authorities, schools, and external agencies. Our emergent specialism is bringing “neuro science and trauma informed practice into our school.”

We work with children at risk of exclusion between the ages of 4-16 years of age. It is split into three centres. Willows (Primary), Redwood KS3 and KS4 (Behaviour) and Cedars (Vulnerable Mental Health). The Centres provide ‘Inclusion profiles’ for children, schools and families designed to enable reintegration into mainstream education via specialist social/emotional support.

Our focus is to provide support and encouragement to all learners enabling them to have a positive approach to life and gain the skills and education needed to look forward to their future beyond New Horizons.

Our progress is the result of hard work and dedication by our specially trained staff and partners in and around Warrington.  This has led to the development of a high quality school which is designed to be flexible and adaptable and meet the needs of all our learners.
